Salomon, formally Salomon Group, is an outdoor sports corp that has been producing gear for decades. They are an original company and were the first to deliver twin tipped skis to a ski market ready for change. Even as snowboard companies have been popping up left and right ever since the activity became a commercial success, not many ski companies have gotten a foothold in the market. Whether that is because they haven't even attempted or because they basically failed to portray the spirit of snowboarding depends on the company. Salomon on the other hand managed to jump in and find a niche by introducing a full line of snowboard gear. But how does it measure up to the stuff made by snowboarding companies?

Ask any rider what the most crucial piece of gear is and they'll most likely reply it's the snowboard boots. Why is it more important than the board and bindings? Mostly because riding an entry level snowboard won't have a huge impact on your performance. Cheap bindings, even though they may make it a tad harder to carve as accurately as you desire, will still do the task. But a junky pair of boots will probably send you to the tavern out of frustration. Lousy snowboard boots can make it so difficult to initiate turns that it can leave one utterly discouraged. If there is one piece of gear you should to spend your money on, it's the boot.

That being said, must you spend it on a pair of Salomon snowboard boots? Salomon has definitely taken its line of snowboard gear seriously. You don't get the feeling that they're a ski company working to cash in on some other sport. They really seem to have put the work into designing these snowboard boots, regardless of the style you buy. The men's and women's lines both offer the broad assortment of boots for any type of rider. They may not be the top of the line, but they without doubt can hold their own against the likes of Burton, Vans and DC.

One of their most well-liked is the F20 Salomon snowboard boot, which is mainly their most inexpensive boot. The initial thing to make note of is how lightweight and low profile the boot is. It is fundamentally a soft park boot, and it performs well here as it doesn't feel like you're sporting a big cumbersome snowboard boot. The craftsmanship appears to be fairly good with their boots as well. It's essentially an all-around decent boot and the know-how they put into it is rather notable. If there was a criticism about Salomon snowboarding boots, it's the lacing system. The old standby lacing system with a few enhancements are still the custom for Salomon. BOA lacing systems really make it as an alternative to laces, but some, like Burton's Fast Lace and Salomon's PowerPro laces, just don't have the similar great feel.

Still, Salomon is not taking their approach to snowboarding lightly. Rather than succumb to the pigeonhole that ski companies can't make a decent snowboard product, they are giving it everything they've got. Salomon's boots substantiate that a ski corporation actually can compete with almost any board company.
